It’s a classic colour that is part of the cool colours. It reflects more light than it absorbs, this is why even dark, it keeps its cool, vibrant side.
Blue is one of those colours that is widespread in the environment (the sky and the ocean). In many cultures, depending on the period, blue is widely associated with the male gender. It is also an important colour in several religions.
According to the additive system, blue is one of the three main coloured lights used to obtain white light. In painting, the subtractive system indicates that in order to obtain blue, you need to add cyan and magenta.
For a long time, blue was considered to be a difficult colour to obtain. Azurite was the first blue pigment obtained by the Egyptians. A little later, it was generated by grinding woad leaves or lapis lazuli stones.
When you talk about the colour blue, it’s impossible to disregard the great 20th century artist Yves Klein to whom we owe IKB (International Klein Blue), created in 1956.
